House and terrace
Watercolour circa 1800. The Georgian house with Regency trelis along the ground floor

The main part, five windows wide, dates from 1775 but was refaced in 1826 to the design of William Atkinson,a pupil of James Wyatt who made his reputation remodelling Abbotsford for Sir Walter Scott. At Titsey he covered the red brick with patent Roman cement for which he was famous at the time. The taller tower on the north side was added to the design of Philip Hardwick (son of the architect of Old Euston Station) in 1856.

The Gresham crest,
a grasshopper
Over the front door is the Gresham crest, a grasshopper, (which can also be seen on the weather vane of the Royal Exchange in London) and on the parapet can be found the Leveson Gower arms. In the middle are the Gresham arms. These record the two inter-related
families who created the Titsey estate.
