This handsome room is the best preserved of Atkinson's interiors at Titsey with its black marble chimneypiece, and fitted three-quarter height bookcases of pollard oak grown on the estate. The room is dominated by Antonio More's magnificent portrait of Sir Thomas Gresham, nephew of John Gresham of Titsey, Lord Mayor of London, builder of the Royal Exchange, Chancellor to Queen Elizabeth I and the precursor of the financial pre-eminence of the City of London. This is thought to have been painted in Flanders where Gresham spent much time on business. It is the very type of the merchant prince. Originally in the possession of the Earl of Northampton, this portrait later formed part of the celebrated collection of George Watson Taylor MP at Erlestoke Park, Wiltshire, and was bought at his sale in 1832 for £42.

To the left of the chimneypiece a small gilt frame contains seven miniatures by Penelope Cotes of Sir Kenrick Clayton and his family including (lower left) his daughter Henrietta Maria who married Sir John Gresham.

The books are a typical country house assemblage with books on history, topography, the classics, poetry, theology and a good collection of illustrated botanical books. The furniture is mainly Regency but there are some French nineteenth century tables in the Louis XV manner. The china decorated with pink flowers on the chimneypiece is Spode.
