The staircase with its cast iron balustrade was designed by Atkinson and embellished by Granville Leveson Gower. His alterations included the stained glass sky light and painted frieze both displaying Gresham and Leveson Gower heraldry. On the half-landing is a French eighteenth century Boulle clock by Paillard of Paris, decorated with a hunting theme. On top a huntsman blows his horn while below the hounds pursue a wild boar. The large painting overlooking the staircase is historically interesting: it is a cartoon after Jacob Jordaens for 'The Leveade' one of a series of Flemish equestrian tapestries now in the Kunthistoriches Museum in Vienna. The various family portraits include a further picture of Mrs. Edward Boscawen, by Alan Ramsay, and of Sir Thomas Gresham, as well as of Lady Anne Clifford and her mother, Margaret Countess of Cumberland, ancestors of the Leveson Gowers through the Tuftons, Earls of Thanet.

The set of three black and gold drawing room cabinets are the best pieces of furniture at Titsey and are lavish English early-nineteenth century work embellished with ormolu mounts including the LG monogram for Leveson Gower, and spectacular panels of Japanese lacquer.

The Staircase and Landing
The glazed cabinet contains a Worcester dessert service made in circa 1760 and finely painted with gros bleu borders. The Sevres ice pail (1780) is a survivor of a large collection of Sevres china formerly at Titsey but sold earlier this century. Nevertheless the house still contains much fine china.
